A Royal Adventure – new children’s book inspired by Will & Kate

A new children’s book based upon The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is to be released next month, to mark Princess Charlotte’s first birthday.

This is the second book from David Seow, a children’s author from Singapore, to be based on the Cambridges, with this tale dedicated to Princess Charlotte.

Out in May in time for Charlotte’s birthday, the book tells the story of Sam, Sebbie, Di-Di-Di and Xandy – characters loosely based on Seow’s nieces and nephews – who are on holiday in London.

Whilst in Kensington Palace Gardens, they spot The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte taking a stroll through the park. Charlotte accidentally drops her teddy. A wild goose chase ensues, as they try to find the Royals and return the teddy – before bedtime.

The first book David wrote with a Royal theme was ‘A Day With The Duchess’, where the trio of children lose their hamster when they are waiting in the crowds to meet Catherine in Singapore; it was released to mark to Royal visit from William and Kate in 2012, as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Both publications are illustrated by Soefara Jafney, turning the Duke and Duchess – and now their children – into beautiful cartoon-style characters.

A few months after ‘A Day with The Duchess’ was published, it was announced that William and Kate were expecting their second child, and so Seow began to plan another instalment that would include Prince George, his new sibling and Lupo.

David, 48, explained his love of the Royal Family: “My grandmother was English so I’m genetically predisposed to being a Royalist. We lived in London for a while.

“My dad was in the diplomatic corps so we would occasionally rub shoulders with Royalty. I was a huge Princess Diana fan and once gave her a bouquet of flowers.

“It was a bit embarrassing but then I met her again a week later and she remembered me. I couldn’t believe it, she said, ‘I remember you – you brought me some flowers last Tuesday.’

David Seow's 'A Day with The Duchess' was the first to feature William and Kate.

“I started babbling like a baboon and have loved the Royals ever since.”

There are already 12 books featuring the Sam, Sebbie and Di-Di-Di, which were released a number of years ago. He began writing children’s books as a babysitter; he was ‘tired of reading long, lengthy stories that had me parched by the end of the night, I decided to write stories my own stories and the kids were hooked’, his site explains.

“I wrote the original books years ago and then a publisher approached me asking if I would bring the characters back for A Day With The Duchess.”

David, knowing The Duchess of Cornwall supports literacy and is a keen reader herself, sent two of his books to Camilla for her grandchildren, with a letter thanking her for her support of reading. He also explained that he had tried to get a copy of ‘the Old Man of Lochnagar’, Prince Charles’ children’s book published in 1980, but had failed. The Duchess sent him a copy in return!
