The Global Academy is a new state school training pupils for careers in broadcast and digital media, featuring both vocational and academic training. It opened last September, but the Royal trio were there for the official opening.

DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE CALLS PRINCE HARRY’S OPENNESS ‘BRILLIANT’

800 students are to fill the classrooms of the academy, which sits on the site of the Old Vinyl Factory in Record Walk. It is run by Global, which owns radio stations including Capital FM, Radio X and LBC.

William, Kate and Harry also promoted their Heads Together campaign, helped out with the production of Heart radio’s breakfast show whilst there, talking to and watching presenters Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton.

Pupils worked at the complicated-looking mixing console as senior production staff oversaw their work as it went out live to the UK.

The Duke of Cambridge joked of radio presenting: “Funny thing to be locked in a box talking to a big red microphone.”
