Arriving in a horse-drawn carriage, The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited The Queen’s Norfolk home as they do each year for the show, though this time the weather didn’t hold out, and the couple were forced to retreat under umbrellas in the July showers.

Sandringham Flower Show is one of the most prestigious horticultural events in the East of England, attracting some 20,000 people to Her Majesty’s back garden each year; the show began here 135 years ago.

The public had gathered to attend the show and also catch a glimpse of the Royals, who gave a walkabout to the crowds. Camilla made some furry friends, and posed for some photos with a pack of labradors.

One lady even tucked herself under Camilla’s umbrella and took a selfie. Some attendees chatted to the press after meeting the royal couple, saying they ‘really make an effort’ and have a particular soft spot for talking to the children; the Prince and Duchess have seven grandchildren between them.

Air cadets and the Army Air Corps also got to speak with the Royals, before they got out of the rain.

Inside the tents, Charles and Camilla browsed the stalls’ offerings and picked up some cheese scones and fruit cake from the local WI stand. There are over 200 general and garden-related stalls at the event.

The Duchess was photographed holding some flowers as she took in the colourful displays. Some leading designers display their gardens, alongside a craft marquee, children’s entertainment and a military band.
