Prince Harry & Meghan choose to keep plans for Baby Sussex private

The plans for the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby have been released – and they are very private.

The couple said they are ‘very grateful’ for all the good wishes on their first child, but ‘have taken a personal decision to keep their plans… private’.

Prince Harry and Meghan have decided that they will not be following in the footsteps of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by sharing where the birth will take place. They will also not appear to the press and public for any photos as Catherine did with all three of her children, just hours after giving birth.

An announcement will simply be made when Meghan is in labour, likely the late stages and not the beginning, and one when the new baby is here.

Baby Sussex, who will take 7th place in the succession, will be ‘_____, Lord Dumbarton’, or ‘Lady _____ of Sussex’ upon arrival, due to current laws. The Queen would have to issue Letters Patent to change this, making them a Prince or Princess, as well as an HRH.

Currently, this privilege is limited to the Monarch’s children, the heir’s children, and the second-in-line’s children.

We suspect Harry and Meghan won’t see this as a problem, because of their children’s distance from the throne and that they likely will not be working Royals and so must lead a (relatively) normal life outside of the palace and royal engagements.

These birth plans reflect that level of privacy the family will have, different to that of Prince William and Kate, future King and Queen Consort.

It has been rumoured that the Duchess wants to have a home birth at the couple’s new residence, Frogmore Cottage near Windsor Castle, but no comment has been made by Buckingham Palace on the plans. The nearest private maternity units to Frogmore are Frimley Park, where The Countess of Wessex delivered Lady Louise via emergency C-section; Wexham in Slough, and Epsom.

Harry and Meghan will release a photo of their new-born, via a photocall at Windsor Castle in the days after his, or her, arrival.

Some suspect they will use their new Instagram account to share some images, as they have been doing with older, personal photos since it opened.
