“There will be 500 unique stories of grit and determination on show, as each competitor takes to the track, pool or court,” the red-haired Prince said, wearing a black Invictus t-shirt.

The Canadian city will play host to the next competition, following on from this year’s games in Orlando. Prince Harry is due to attend with Michelle Obama, and Dr Jill Biden for a number of fixtures at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in May.

500 men and women from around the world will compete in a variety of races, all of whom were in the forces and were injured in the line of duty.

“Everyone has given their all to make the team, to represent their nation again and to prove what they can achieve post injury.”

The former Army Captain said he was ‘absolutely delighted’ to make the announcement, revealing he ‘hoped the Invictus story would continue after the London games’.

He paid tribute to the men and women who ‘served their country so bravely’ also saying the 2017 contest will involve more countries, and more competitors taking part than ever before.

Invictus 2014 was a resounding success, with almost all tickets sold to events, also drawing a huge TV audience.

Harry noted the importance of choosing Canada for the next games, as it is an important anniversary year for the military which ‘shaped and defined the nation’, also being the 200th anniversary of the confederation.

The Prince will pay Toronto a visit before he arrives in Orlando to launch an official countdown for 2017.
