Princess Anne focuses on racing and rehabilitation on away day to Suffolk

It was a busy day for The Princess Royal as she carried out a series of engagements in Suffolk on Tuesday, where she made visits to Newmarket, Stowmarket and Martlesham.

Princess Anne’s first stop was at Newmarket to formally open Racing Welfare’s new £3.5 million accommodation, called Summerhill House. Anne is the charity’s president.

About Princess Anne’s visit, the chief executive of Racing Welfare, Dawn Goodfellow said: “We are immensely proud of the project and were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness on a tour the building during of her visit.”

The second visit of the day was at Stowmarket, where Anne toured Livability Icanho’s rehabilitation centre. The organisation, of which she’s patron, specialises in the recovery of those who have suffered brain injuries.

The new equipment includes a Vector body weight support system which was demonstrated by patients to the Princess.

Dr Rosemary Gravell, the service manager, said: “We’re particularly pleased Princess Anne came to raise awareness of the impact of acquired brain injuries. She was able to celebrate the excellent rehabilitation services we have here, and help us to launch our new equipment.”

“We’re super honoured that Princess Anne has visited as she is a great supporter of our charity. Princess Anne coming to Icanho shines a light on it as a specialist centre for brain injuries in Suffolk”, added Lisa Hemsley, the assistant director of fundraising at Livability.

Lastly, The Princess Royal visited the British Telecom’s Global Research Headquarters in Adastral Park, Martlesham.

There, Princess Anne opened their new £9.6 million digitech centre by unveiling a commemorative plaque. The new facilities are a joint venture with the University of Suffolk.

About the facilities, Professor Mohammad Dastbaz said: “We’ve created state-of-the-art facilities here. We want this to be a national and international facility. It’s a great recognition that Princess Anne was here to visit.”

The organisation’s director, Lisa Perkins also said: “We feel very privileged and honoured that Princess Anne visited.”
