Princess Eugenie and Jack are engaged – second royal wedding this autumn!

Princess Eugenie and boyfriend Jack Brooksbank are engaged, The Duke and Duchess of York have announced.

In a short statement earlier this morning, Princess Eugenie’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah, said they were ‘delighted’ to make the news public.

Jack, 31 proposed to Eugenie, 27, earlier this month during a holiday to Nicaragua. The couple have been dating since approximately 2011. Reports claim they met skiing in Switzerland, where The Duke of York now has a chalet.

Yesterday, the Yorks attended church with The Queen in Castle Rising; some photos seem to show Eugenie’s fiance at the church too. We can speculate that The Queen’s permission was then sought; although legally Eugenie, as eighth in line to the throne, doesn’t need to seek her grandmother’s approval, she will have done so as a gesture of their close relationship.

Mr Brooksbank is a manager at Mayfair bar Mahiki, while the Princess has a full-time position – with some flexibility for a small number of royal engagements – at auction house Hauser & Wirth.

Jack’s parents, Nicola and George, said: “We could not be more delighted with the news of the engagement.

“We are completely over the moon and are very excited for them both.”

The Duke of York’s twitter account posted this personal snap of the couple after the announcement was made.

The wedding will take place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle this autumn, probably October. Of course, Prince Harry and Meghan will marry there this May.

Being so far down the line of succession, and also a non-working Royal, Eugenie is are not expected to receive any titles upon her marriage. The Princess will thus become ‘HRH The Princess Eugenie, Mrs Brooksbank’ and Jack will continue as he is currently styled.

It does seem likely that the couple will move into a small apartment or cottage at Kensington Palace, although some rumours suggest they have been living there together for some time.
