Princess Anne has a vast collection of brooches in her possession, including a sapphire and diamond brooch.
But why does this brooch look familiar to one previously worn by Elizabeth II and currently worn on Queen Camilla? We’ve taken a look at this special piece…

The brooch features 12 diamonds and a large faceted sapphire, that is more of an oval shape, in the centre of the piece.
It is a replica of Prince Albert’s sapphire brooch, which was was worn by Queen Victoria on her wedding gown, as a gift from Prince Albert the day before the ceremony.
It has been suggested that a number of brooches were made as replicas, one for each of Albert’s five daughters.
Jewellery historian Suzy Menkes backs up this theory and states that Elizabeth II bought one of these replicas for her own daughter when it came onto the market.
The sapphire and diamond brooch has been worn by Princess Anne on a number of occasions, including at an event to celebrate her 50th birthday in 2000. The event saw both Elizabeth and Anne wear their matching brooches.
More recently, the Princess wore the brooch at 2025 Household Division Military Musical Spectacular. We of course see the brooch mostly on blue outfits, or occasionally a neutral one that allows the blue to stand out.
