Camilla’s Jewellery: Pansy brooches

The Queen has worn them frequently over the two decades

Since marrying King Charles in 2005, Queen Camilla has amassed a vast collection of jewellery, both from her personal acquisitions and pieces inherited from the Royal Family. Among her treasured items is a distinctive pair of pansy brooches, which she has worn on numerous significant occasions over the last couple of decades.

The origins of the pansy brooches remain unknown, though their craftsmanship suggests they may date back to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period. Floral motifs in enamel and gold were highly popular during that era, often serving as sentimental keepsakes or love tokens. The pansy, in particular, was a favoured choice due to its symbolic meaning – ‘think of me’ – making it a touching and meaningful adornment for the Queen.

Camilla’s pansy brooches are set in 14k yellow gold, and feature deep purple and vivid yellow enamel. Each petal is edged with clear stones, adding a delicate sparkle to the pieces, while a single pearl is nestled at the centre within a small spot of yellow enamel.

The combination of these elements enhances the brooches’ intricate detailing and elegant appearance.

Throughout the years, Queen Camilla has worn these pansy brooches at numerous public engagements, often pairing them with purple clothing. She has donned the brooches for a range of formal events, including visits to Japan in 2008 and Hungary in 2010. They were also part of Camilla’s outfit at Commonwealth Day Services at Westminster Abbey, notably in 2012, and have been part of her ensemble for multiple Christmas Day Services at Sandringham, including in 2007 and 2012. More recently, she was seen wearing them at Cheltenham Festival in 2025.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the pansy brooches carry a deeper symbolic meaning. Like forget-me-nots, pansies have long been associated with remembrance and sentimental attachment. Their presence in Camilla’s collection may signify cherished relationships.
