As Colonel of the Irish Guards, The Princess of Wales has items of jewellery relating to the regiment. One is a Shamrock brooch, the other is the Guards Regimental Brooch.

Let’s take a look at the brooch in greater detail.

The regimental brooch features an eight-point star that takes the shape of the regiment’s badge, that of the Order of St. Patrick, who is the Patron saint of Ireland. In the centre of the star is a circular badge, with a shamrock bearing crowns on top of a cross of St. Patrick.

You might recognise its similar shape to the badge of the Order of the Garter.

Around the central badge is a motto of the Order of St. Patrick which reads ‘Quis separtabit’, meaning ‘Who will separate us?’. 1783 is written below in Roman numerals, for when the Order of St Patrick was founded; the regiment was founded in 1900 however, by Queen Victoria.

Catherine wore the Irish Guards Regimental Brooch during Trooping the Colour 2025, having made its debut during Trooping in 2024. The brooch also made an appearance when the Princess opted to wear it for a service to mark Armistice Day 2025 at the National Memorial Arboretum.
