Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested in Norfolk, for misconduct in a public office.
It is understood this charge relates to allegations that he shared sensitive information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein when he was a UK trade envoy.
Reports from The Telegraph and The Sun claim that six unmarked police cars and multiple plain-clothed police officers arrived at Wood Farm – Andrew’s current home on the Sandringham estate – just after 8am this morning.
Today is Andrew’s 66th birthday.
A statement from Thames Valley Police – the force local that covers Windsor – has been shared just after 10am on X: ‘Thames Valley Police have opened an investigation into an offence of misconduct in public office. A man in his sixties from Norfolk has been arrested and remains in police custody.
‘As per national guidance we will not name the arrested man.
‘Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.
‘“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.
‘“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”’
Police are searching addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.
Following Andrew’s arrest, Buckingham Palace has issued a statement from The King:
The statement was signed ‘Charles R.’ meaning it has directly come His Majesty The King. This is the first time Charles has issued direct works about the events surrouding his brother.
This is a live and developing story, more to come as we can confirm it.
