The King has sent a message to the people of Austria following the school shooting in Graz.
On the morning of June 10, 2025, a 21‑year‑old former student of BORG Dreierschützengasse entered the school in Graz and opened fire using a legally owned Glock pistol and a shotgun . He fired around 40 rounds in corridors and classrooms, killing 10 individuals – nine students aged and a teacher – before turning the gun on himself in a school lavatory.

In a statement, King Charles III said that he and Camilla ‘were deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the appallingly tragic events at the Dreierschutzengasse school in Graz. Schools should be places of sanctuary and learning, which makes this horrific attack on students and staff all the more dreadful’.
He concluded his statement by sending his ‘most heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those affected by this terrible loss of life and injury. We send our deepest sympathy to all Austrians at this profoundly distressing time’.
