Yesterday, The Countess of Wessex had a busy day as she attended two engagements, one celebrating the life of actor Sir Roger Moore, as well as a concert organised by Mencap and the Music Man Project.
The event honouring Sir Roger Moore, the celebrated English actor who passed away in May of this year, was held at Pinewood Studios. Moore played the iconic spy in seven films between 1973 and 1985, and the studios have been home to the James Bond film series since 1962. The service was held a day after what would have been the actor’s 90th birthday.

Sophie attended the memorial service, and officially opened the studios’ new ‘The Roger Moore Stage’. The event was attended by over 300 guests, both family members and famous faces, including Sir Michael Caine and Dame Joan Collins, who read tributes to Roger Moore at the unveiling ceremony.
The Julian Rachlin Quartet and Q The Music performed some of the film franchise’s well-known songs, while cars used in the movies were on display around the studios’ gardens. There was also afternoon tea for guests after the memorial service.

The Countess also attended a performance at the London Palladium by the Music Man Project. The concert was held in conjunction with Mencap, a charity which supports people with learning difficulties; Sophie has been patron of the organisation since 2004; the charity’s former royal patron was The Queen Mother.

The concert included performances by musicians from London, Essex, Suffolk and Sussex who have learning difficulties. There was also a special tribute to Lord Brian Rix, a long-time disability campaigner and previous president of Mencap who passed away in 2016.

The Music Man Project held its first solo concert on the West End in 2015, and has since performed on occasions such as the London marathon and Mencap’s national conference.
