King Felipe of Spain will make a State Visit to the UK early next year, it has been announced.
The King, who will be accompanied by his wife, Queen Letizia, is to visit from 8th to 10th March 2016, and stay with The Queen at Windsor Castle.
This is the first visit from the Spanish Monarch since 1986, when Juan Carlos, Felipe’s father, was still on the throne. He came with his wife, Queen Sofia.

Juan Carlos abdicated last year, as public opinion turned against him for extravagant spending in a time of economic hardship in Spain. The situation was not helped by Infanta Cristina, Felipe’s sister; the Spanish Princess is currently facing charges of tax fraud, an ongoing case.
Her Majesty last visited Spain in 1988, when then-Crown Prince Felipe greeted her as a young man.
