After three days in Singapore, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall paid a whirlwind visit to Brunei on their way to Malaysia. Today marked the fourth day of the couple’s 11-day tour of Asia.
Upon their arrival at the airport in Brunei, Charles and Camilla were greeted by the country’s Crown Prince, Al-Muhtadee Billah, and his wife Princess Sarah. The royal group walked down a red carpet and received a guard of honour from members of the country’s military, while Charles and Camilla were introduced to local dignitaries and officials.
Prince Charles and Camilla then visited Edinburgh Palace where they had tea with the Sultan.
They then attended a reception held in their honour by Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Murray, who is the commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles. This year, The Queen’s eldest son marked the 40th anniversary of his appointment as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Gurkha Rifles.
At the reception, the Prince and Duchess received a traditional welcome from some of the soldiers’ children, who presented Charles and Camilla with malla garlands, a popular local custom.

After the Gurkha reception, The Prince of Wales met with The Sultan of Brunei. Last month marked The Sultan’s Golden Jubilee, commemorated by lavish celebrations which were attended by the Earl and Countess of Wessex on behalf of Her Majesty.
The Duchess of Cornwall had a separate meeting with Her Majesty Raja Isteri; the two women discussed Charles and Camilla’s hectic Commonwealth tour schedule, with the Duchess commenting, “Every day, we’re non-stop!“
After a whirlwind visit to Brunei, the royal couple then arrived in Malaysia, which is the penultimate stop on their Autumn Tour.
