Leaders of the Commonwealth have decided that Prince Charles WILL take over as Head of the Commonwealth when he becomes King.
Heads of the 53 nations of the Commonwealth met at Windsor Castle today for a traditional leaders retreat, after last night’s formal dinner at Buckingham Palace.
Yesterday, The Queen spoke openly of her ‘sincere wish’ that The Prince of Wales should continue her and her father’s work at the helm of the Commonwealth network. A number of countries, including the UK, Canada and New Zealand, had already offered their support to Charles to take on the role.

Theresa May earlier said the vote for The Prince of Wales was unanimous amongst leaders, and as the meeting came to a close, a statement was given.
“As Her Majesty enters her seventh decade as Head of the Commonwealth, we put on record our continuing gratitude for the duty and commitment Her Majesty has shown to all members of the Commonwealth over those decades,” the leaders’ statement read. “We recognise the role of the Queen in championing the Commonwealth and its peoples. The next Head of the Commonwealth shall be His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales.”
The announcement was also made that the next CHOGM meeting will be held in Rwanda in 2020, then Samoa in 2022.
In a statement released this evening, Prince Charles said: “I am deeply touched and honoured by the decision of Commonwealth Heads of State and Government that I should succeed The Queen, in due course, as Head of the Commonwealth.
”Meanwhile, I will continue to support Her Majesty in every possible way, in the service of our unique family of nations.”
