We don’t often find out what the Royal Family buy one another for Christmas, but it seems Meghan Markle’s first Christmas present to The Queen was a hit with the Monarch – but not much liked by Her Majesty’s beloved corgis!
Meghan, 36, joined the festive gathering at Sandringham this year, before she marries Prince Harry at Windsor in May, and was spotted walking to church on Christmas morning, hand-in-hand with her fiance.
The Royal Family follow the German tradition of gift opening on Christmas Eve, and – being who they are – presents are all joke-items or handmade gifts, like jams. One year, Princess Anne reportedly bought a white leather toilet seat for Prince charles – which he loves(!) and Prince Harry gave his grandmother a shower cap, bearing the words ‘Ain’t life a bitch!’.
The Daily Star reports that the American actress gave The Queen a a singing toy hamster! Ms Markle’s present to The Queen was popular with the Monarch – but not her dogs.
“It can keep my dogs company!” the 91-year-old reportedly said of the gift, laughing. But it was soon snatched away by her curious corgis, who are notoriously yappy and often bite at guests’ ankles!
“Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty,” the paper quotes a source. “It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.”
Each family, like the Wessexes, the Cambridges and the Yorks have a table each laid out with their gifts in the dining room at Sandringham House.
Two church services, a lunch, and a formal dinner follow on Christmas Day – and of course, watching Her Majesty’s speech!
Earlier today, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh for a Sunday service at St Mary Magdalene Church, just a short walk from the house.
Pippa and James Matthews – Catherine’s sister and brother-in-law, also attended the service.
