Despite not attending any public engagements to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, The Prince and Princess of Wales have issued a personal message on their social media pages to mark the day.
Writing on socials, Their Royal Highnesses state how on the 80th anniversary, ‘we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all who served’.
Today we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific. We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful. Lest we forget.
The message was signed – W & C – indicating the post came from William and Catherine, rather than the Kensington Palace staff.
Elsewhere, members of the Royal Family have been marking the anniversary with their own engagements. Earlier this week, The Duchess of Edinburgh met with a 105 war veteran. While The King issued a audio message which was broadcast at 7:30am BST.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will attend a service at the Scottish War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle, while the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will be in attendance at the Far East Prisoners of War Service at Norwich Cathedral.
