Prince Harry & Meghan’s engagement photo call

This afternoon saw Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first official appearance as an engaged couple, in a photo call at Kensington Palace.

In the sunken garden at the palace, which his mother so-loved, Harry and Meghan appeared for a battalion of press to mark the occasion.

The announcement of their engagement came at 10am this morning after a week of speculation, and bookmakers suspending bets on the couple tying the knot.

Prince Harry walked out in front of the cameras hand-in-hand with his fiancee, who wore a three-diamond ring on a gold band, featuring two from his mother’s private collection, and one from Botswana, where the couple have spent time. It was made by Cleave & Co.

Answering a few quick questions from the press, Harry said he would reveal how he proposed ‘later’ in the couple’s tv interview., but said ‘Of course’ his proposal was romantic.

The couple looked very much in love as they appeared in front of the cameras.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said: “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

A tweet from Buckingham Palace said The Queen and Prince Philip ‘are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.’

The palace says that Harry and Meghan will live at Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, Harry’s current home. They will have their wedding in the coming Spring, but no other details have been released.
