The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to her third child – a boy – the palace has announced.
Catherine was admitted to hospital this morning in labour, finally meeting the new arrival at 11.01. The arrival makes this royal baby The Queen’s sixth great-grandchild and the third grandchild for Prince Charles.
Kate also had her last two children at the Lindo Wing in Paddington, and for both births, was only in hospital for 24 hours, or even less.
The Duchess began her maternity leave in late March, ending with a Commonwealth Lunch engagement, while their last appearance was at the Easter Sunday service with The Queen.
Bookies have had the best odds on the Prince being called Philip or Arthur. Of course, Philip would be a nod to the recently-retired Duke of Edinburgh, who is also the longest-serving Prince Consort in British history. Take a look at the names people are betting on for the royal baby.
As a boy, we can expect the baby to have four names, announced in the coming days.
The area outside of the Lindo Wing was to be clear from 10th April, and cameras have been outside for hours, since the announcement of Kate’s admission was made.
We expect to see the Duchess, accompanied by Prince William, leave the hospital in a few hours and briefly pose with their newborn, as well as Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2, coming to visit their new brother shortly beforehand.
A traditional easel will be put outside Buckingham Palace to make the formal announcement. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news, the palace says.
Updates as they come.
