Cubs in Kings Lynn celebrated the organisation’s 100th birthday with The Duchess of Cambridge last night, as she got involved with crafts and team building with youngsters.
Kate, who wore a traditional adult neck scarf for the occasion, happily took part in activities themed around looking after yourself and others physically and emotionally, mental health being a cause she has championed in her work for the Royal Family.
In one particular activity focused on respecting yourself and others, the group built a wall of positivity, writing down things they are good at and making promises to help others.

“I’ll have a go but I think it’ll be a short list!” said Catherine, before writing down “bonfire building” as her skill.
While living in Anglesey, the Duchess worked as a volunteer with a local Cub Scout pack, joining as an official member in 2012. Kings Lynn is one of the local groups to Catherine’s country home of Anmer Hall.
Kate also giggled along during a parachute game with the children, in a bid to develop teamwork and cooperation skills. In another important activity, the children learnt how to tie a sling using a neckerchief for first aid.
Dylan McKenna, nine, put Kate’s arm in a sling. “It was fun putting her arm in a sling as I was one of the only ones” he said. “She said I did a good job. She said ‘well done I’m very impressed with this’. She asked me what badges I got and how much I enjoy cubs. She was exactly how I expected her to be, really kind, delightful and just a pleasure to be with. It was great that she came to see us and sing happy birthday.”
The group enjoyed decorating cupcakes and singing Happy Birthday with the Royal, who took the pink cupcake as no one wanted it.
The official birthday of the Cub Scouts is 16th December, when thousands of Cubs across the country will be renewing their Cub Scout Promise at 7.16pm – Cub Scouts was officially founded on 16th December 1916 with a public display at Caxton Hall, London. There are now over 150,000 Cub Scouts in the UK.
