The Princess of Wales has said the Christmas season represents the ‘power of reaching out to one another’, in a letter released ahead of her annual carol service at Westminster Abbey.

Now in its fifth year, ‘Together at Christmas Carol Service‘ will bring together 1,600 guests on 5th December, to celebrate love in all its forms, whether within families, through friendships, across communities or kindness between strangers.

This year’s service will recognise individuals from across the UK who have dedicated or volunteered their time to support others, led initiatives that bring communities together or offered a helping hand to those around them.

In her letter to guests, Catherine thanked them for the warmth and kindness they have shown, encouraging all to see Christmas as a reminder of how our lives are ‘woven together’.

‘At a time when life can sometimes feel fragmented or uncertain, the Christmas season invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another with generosity of heart, understanding and hope’ she wrote.

The Princess continued: At its heart, Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest, most human ways. Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones. A moment of listening, a word of comfort, a friendly conversation, a helping hand, presence. These simple acts of care might seem small, but they contribute to the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong.’

She added: ‘Christmas is a time that reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together. Just as the roots of trees share strength beneath the soil, unseen but vital, so too do we. We are drawn by an instinctive pull towards belonging and connection.’

The Princess said the service would offer a moment of ‘collective togetherness’, celebrating community spirit and the bonds that unite people across the country.

She will be joined by her husband, the Prince of Wales, who will give a reading. Royal watchers will be hoping their children, George, Charlotte and Louis make an appearance as in previous years alongside other members of the Royal Family.

Performances at this year’s event will come from Katie Melua, Cornish folk group Fisherman’s Friends, and rising star Griff, while readings linked to the theme of love, compassion and connection will be delivered by Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor, comic Babatunde Aleshe, and actor Joe Locke. Pianist Paul Gladstone Reid will accompany the speakers.

Guests will also see candles lit by people The Prince and Princess have met in recent years, alongside others taking part in the service. The congregation will be invited to add their names to a ‘connection tree’, symbolising the power of togetherness and the importance of moments of connection with one another.
