Yesterday, Prince William traveled to Newport to attend the Welsh Investment Summit – where he also spoke fondly of the early days of his marriage to wife, Catherine.

The country’s first investment summit sought to champion Welsh industry and businesses. It was here that The Prince of Wales gave the keynote address in front of 300 guests from 25 different countries, one of which was Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

In his speech, the future King spoke of his connection to Wales, where he and The Princess of Wales made their first home after their marriage – including their first joint engagement ahead of their nuptials.

From 2010 until 2014, the couple were based on the island of Anglesey as William worked for the RAF Search and Rescue mission.

Speaking of that time, William said: ‘Wales was the first place Catherine and I made our home together – on the island of Anglesey. When you make a home in Wales, you join a family of three million people, and the sense of warmth and belonging is what makes Wales unlike anywhere else.’

The International Convention Centre hosted William’s speech, along with 250 businesses, 150 of which are new investors to Wales.

The business showcase is said to be the most significant event hosted by the nation since the 2014 Nato summit.

William was accompanied around the showcase by Eluned Morgan, First Minister of Wales, and delegates from global companies like Nvidia and Vodafone.

The VIP group toured the many exhibits, each one promoting businesses from Wales, including Limb Art, eco underfloor heating system Haydale, and a new fully-electric Morris van, which is due to begin production next year in St Athan.

The Prince spent time talking to former Team GB Paralympic Swimmer, and founder of Limb Art, Mark Williams, whose company produces designed prosthetic leg covers.

Williams told the royal visitor about his accident which occurred on the 21st June 1982 – the Prince’s very own birthday.

The swimmer shared how he was rushed to Glan Clwyd hospital in North Wales, after being hit by a car while riding his bike. He explained how the surgeon had come out to speak to his parents announced there was both good and bad news.

‘The good news is; [Prince] Charles and Princess Diana, have just had a baby boy, which was Prince William. And the bad news is we can’t save Mark’s leg,’ he explained members of the media later.

The Limb Art business developed almost accidentally, when the paralympian made a cast for himself – a replica of his ‘good leg’ – and posted about it on social media, and it took off amongst the amputee community.

Before the summit, The Prince of Wales paid a visit to KLA, an international semiconductor company, and their newly-opened facility in Newport.

Semiconductors, such as silicon, are vital materials for electronics today, functioning as both conductors and insulators to amplify signals, switch power, and convert energy.

William was shown around the facility and saw how those working there produce wafers and chips for some of the world’s leading semiconductor and microelectronic device manufacturers.

During the visit, he also visited the demonstration lab and met with representatives from KLA’s local supply chain, as well as apprentices and graduates employed by the company.
