The Chartered College of Teaching has announced that Princess Beatrice has become its new Patron, a role that was previously held by her grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, until his passing in 2021.
Founded in 1849 and granted a Royal Charter that same year, the Chartered College of Teaching represents a community of dedicated, professional teachers who are committed to excellence in education.
The announcement reflects Princess Beatrice’s deep and ongoing commitment to education and the development of young people, who has a strong record of advocacy in education.
Through her role as Trustee and Founder of Big Change – a charitable organisation that champions young people and reimagines the way education can unlock potential – HRH has consistently supported initiatives that empower learners and educators alike. She has also served as an Ambassador and Patron for a range of other organisations dedicated to improving the lives and opportunities of children and young people.
Speaking about becoming the organisation’s new Patron, Beatrice said: ‘To me, the power that teachers have on shaping lives and transforming futures makes it one of the most commendable and highly regarded professions.’
‘I’m a passionate believer in the vital role that teachers play every day and know firsthand the impact that great teaching can leave on a child and their family.’
‘It’s a real honour to take up the role as Patron of the Chartered College of Teaching, a role previously held by my grandfather. I’m really excited to support the College’s mission to champion excellence in teaching and to celebrate the impact of this incredible profession.’
Dame Alison Peacock, CEO of the Chartered College of Teaching said: “I am delighted to welcome HRH Princess Beatrice as our Patron and as an advocate for the teaching profession. I am extremely grateful for her recognition of the important work that the Chartered College of Teaching does to empower the profession, and look forward to her involvement with us.”
Earlier this year, Beatrice became Patron of another charitable cause that has become close to her heart – Bourne – a charity that is dedicated ending premature birth and funds research into the causes of premature births in the UK and across the world.
