Today at Windsor Castle, The King, as Head of the Commonwealth, received The Hon. Shirley Botchwey upon her appointment as the new Commonwealth Secretary-General.
The appointment comes just weeks after the Royal Family marked Commonwealth Day at the annual Westminster Abbey Service.
Taking to social media, the new Commonwealth Secretary-General, said she had the honour of her first Audience with The King, adding that they both shared their ‘vision and aspirations for the Commonwealth’s continued success’ and that she looks forward ‘to working with His Majesty to strengthen the bonds within our family of nations’.
Following her predecessor, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is the 7th Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and the first woman from Africa to hold this position.
