- History from across the centuries, Royalty from the 21st -

It’s that time of year where the members of the Royal Family will be issuing their annual Christmas cards, which will be sent to many across the country.

We’ve taken a look at the photographs used for this year’s Christmas cards…

The King and Queen

This year, for their fourth christmas card as King and Queen, Charles and Camilla have opted for a more informal photograph for their Christmas card, choosing an image taken during their State Visit to Italy in April earlier this year. The photograph was taken by Chris Jackson in the grounds of Villa Wolkonsky.

The image was first shared to mark the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary, and it features Camilla wearing a cream Anna Valentine dress and a Lily of the Valley brooch.

The message inside the card reads, “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.”

The Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence

For her 2024 Christmas card, Princess Anne opted for an image of her and her husband, Sir Tim Lawrence, riding in a carriage during their visit to Sark as the Channel Islands marked Liberation Day on 10th May

The photo was taken by Aaron Chown and shows the couple smiling as they travelled by horse and carriage to La Coupee (a narrow walkway that connects the main island of Sark to the peninsula of Little Sark).

The message inside reads: ‘With Best Wishes for a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year from Anne and Tim.’
