The earrings consist of oval-shaped green amethysts, which are suspended from round green tourmalines. Both amethysts and tourmalines are surrounded by a border of small diamonds. The gemstones are set in 18 carat yellow gold, and a single diamond stone connects the stud to the drop.

Green amethysts are a less common variety of amethyst, the stone being associated with qualities such as compassion, abundance, growth, happiness and harmony. Tourmalines are connected to ideas of healing and balance.

This particular pair of earrings reportedly holds deep sentimental value for Catherine, as they might have been a gift from her husband, Prince William, following the birth of their daughter, Princess Charlotte, in 2015.

The earrings made their public debut in 2016 when Catherine wore them to a luncheon with the Prime Minister of India during the royal tour of India and Bhutan.

Since then, the Green Tourmaline earrings from Kiki McDonough have become a staple in her collection, gracing several high-profile occasions. Notably, she wore them on the first day of the royal visit to Sweden in 2018, at the St. Patrick’s Day Parades in 2018 and 2019, and at the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Final in 2021.

Most recently, the Princess of Wales showcased these earrings during the 2025 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in London.
