King Charles and Queen Camilla have begun a Royal Visit to Ottawa, Canada, making it the first time His Majesty has visited Canada as Sovereign following his accession to the throne in September 2022.
The last time Charles and Camilla visited Canada, as Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, was just merely a few months before Elizabeth II passed away, with the visit commemorating the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Arriving in Ottawa, Camilla wore a pale pink fringed Anna Valentine coat dress, Chanel shoes, paired with a diamond maple leaf brooch, which was originally a gift from George VI to the Queen Mother.
Their Majesties’ first engagement was attending a community event at Lansdowne Park showcasing the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Canada, during which The King and Queen will have the opportunity to meet Canadians from across the country, from a range of organisations.
At the event, The King and Queen spoke to one of Camilla’s regiments, the Queen’s Own Rifles, of which she is Colonel-in-Chief.
His Majesty also toured the horticulture building at the Park, where he met a range of individuals and organisations including students who painted skateboards for Indigenous youth in need in Ottawa, and OrKidstra, a program that helps kids from equity-deserving Ottawa communities learn how to play musical instruments.
The King then went on to hold Audiences with the Governor General and Prime Minister Carney, before a short ceremony took place to swear in The Queen as a member of the Canadian Privy Council.
Their Majesties then moved on to Rideau Hall, where they planted a tree in the grounds to mark their visit. The tree was planned near the same site as a sugar maple tree which Charles and Camilla planted during their tour of Canada in 2017.
Loud cheers for King Charles, planting a tree in Rideau Hall’s garden. Crowds had been queueing since 10:30am to see this moment, and for a chance to meet Their Majesties 🇨🇦 pic.twitter.com/WoVOv3KZYX

Charles and Camilla’s second day in Canada will see His Majesty deliver the Speech from the Throne to open the first session of the 45th Parliament of Canada.
The couple will also pay their respects and lay a wreath at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial.
