Floral arrangement from Camilla shows support for British Flowers Week

The Duchess of Cornwall has sent a message of support to the British Flowers Week initiative, and shared a photo of her own floral arrangement.

Camilla has recorded a video message from Birkhall, also showing off a floral display composed of flowers from her Scottish gardens.

British Flowers Week (15th-21st June) celebrates British flower growers and florists, and is run by New Covent Garden Market. The scheme is asking the public to join in the celebrations by placing British-grown flowers in their windows, front porch or gate where passers-by can see them.

The Duchess is a keen gardener herself, an interest she shares with her husband Prince Charles.

She says: “In these difficult times, when we are all searching for something to brighten our lives, there is nothing that can lift our spirits more than our native flowers and plants.

“They are nature’s healers. In our gardens, in our window boxes, or even in just a simple vase, their glorious scents and myriad of colours are veritable life enhancers.”

The flowers chosen by The Duchess of Cornwall have been placed in a Scottish pottery vase. We can see forgot-me-nots, cranesbill, Alchemilla, tulips, peonies, poppies, cow parsley and Solomon’s Seal in Camilla’s bouquet.

“That is why, this year in particular, British Flowers Week is even more important than ever,” Camilla continues.

“As the Patron of Floral Angels, who are based at the Market, I would like to say a huge thank you to the New Covent Garden Market and The Garden Museum for making this celebration of the wealth and variety of British-grown flowers possible, and to the people behind them; the growers, the gardeners, the florists and everyone who appreciates their beauty and their contribution to our well-being.

“Keep safe and ‘say it with flowers’.”

A few weeks ago, the Duchess shared that Alchemilla was her favourite flower, and a staple for the garden in a virtual Chelsea Flower Show activity.

“This acid green fluffy – flowered plant is one of the best ever foliage plants for the garden and the vase. A must for every gardener,” she said of the plant.

The Duchess mentions her patronage, Floral Angels. The charity recycle flowers used at weddings and other events, creating smaller bouquets to send out to community organisations, such as care homes and hospices.
