Prince William enjoys a pint ahead of pubs reopening in England

The Duke of Cambridge has enjoyed a pint at a pub, ahead of the opening of pubs, restaurants and cafes tomorrow in England.

Prince William supped on a glass of Aspalls cider at The Rose and Crown pub in Snettisham, Norfolk, in the beer garden during his visit to the establishment earlier today.

Social distancing was observed during the royal visit, with Anthony and Jeannette Goodrich, the owners. He was shown the new steps taken to protect pub-goers, including hand sanitiser, and collecting they details, and told his order of cider with ice would be brought outside to him.

It was only a few weeks ago that the Duke was joking how much he wished he could go to the pub, commenting he had consumed a lot of chocolate and cakes during lockdown…

This is the first public visit from the future King since he visited a local bakery back in June, picking up pain au chocolat and croissants in King’s Lynn, as well as a birthday cake!

William also got to chat with some of the pub’s staff; the Goodriches, who have owned the pub for 25 years, head chef Philip Milner and duty manager Lucy Heffer. The royal visitor heard how they had coped with the challenges of three months in lockdown.
As his drink was brought over, William joked he would remember to pay before he left. “I don’t know where I pay, I’ll do that before I leave, I promise,” he said.
The response came, “We know where you live!”
Speaking of his concern about the colder months affecting those visiting pubs, staff explained they had a marquee to protect people from the elements.
He was also treated to a bowl of chips, and revealed that the Rose and Crown is a pub the Cambridge family have frequented in the past. “The children have been in there a few times,” he said, indicating the roped off play area. “They will see that as a challenge,” he joked.
