As we near the day of the Royal Wedding, one can certainly feel the excitement and anticipation in the air! There are so many surprises in store and questions that beg to be answered for every royal enthusiast – the most important being “Which tiara will Meghan wear?” Here is a look at just a few baubles from The Queen’s vault that may end up being the chosen sparkler!
The Strathmore Rose Tiara
This stunning tiara would be a perfect choice for Meghan, due to her love of flowers. The tiara is designed with a garland of five wild rose prongs, set with rose-cut diamonds that are mounted in silver and gold. Additionally, the centre diamonds can be replaced with sapphires to add a hint of colour. The roses are meant to represent love in all of its forms.
There are two frames for this tiara to choose from: one that allows it to be worn on top of the head, and another to wear across the forehead in a 1920’s style.
The Earl of Strathmore purchased the tiara for his daughter, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother) as a wedding gift in 1923, although The Queen Mother only wore this piece in her early days of royal life. It has been a number of decades since the Strathmore Rose has been worn in public. Now would be an excellent time to bring this beauty back out and a lovely way to pay tribute to The Queen Mother on such a special day.
The Lotus Flower Tiara
Another exquisite tiara passed down from The Queen Mother, is the Lotus Flower, also known as the Papyrus Leaf Tiara. Originally a necklace that she received from her husband as a wedding gift, this Greek patterned confection consisted of pendant diamonds and pearls. The necklace was then given to Garrard’s Jewellers and fashioned into the dazzling but delicate piece. The diamonds were set into fanned motifs complete with diamond arches that float above the motifs. Finished off with a large, central pearl and two smaller pearls at the base, this divine tiara certainly makes a statement without being too over the top.
The Queen Mother passed the Lotus Flower down to Princess Margaret, who in turned loaned it to her future daughter-in-law, Serena Stanhope, to wear on her wedding day. After Princess Margaret’s death, the tiara was returned to The Queen who has loaned it to The Duchess of Cambridge, but it is still up for grabs if Meghan so chooses!

A Princess-to-be, who wants to stand out with her own unique style, could choose to wear The Queen Mother’s Cartier Bracelet Bandeau. Elegant yet luminescent, this tiara consists of three Art Deco gemstones and diamond Cartier bracelets set onto a frame. When she was newly married, The Queen Mother (at that time The Duchess of York), received a set of five different Cartier bracelets as a gift from her husband. One bracelet is set with sapphires, one with rubies, one with emeralds, and two just with diamonds. Any combination of three can be put together to make an exceptional, one-of-a-kind look. The Queen has worn the bracelets over the years but they have not been worn as a tiara in almost a century. This tiara would therefore set a new Princess apart from the rest and celebrate her personal sense of style.
Whether Ms. Markle chooses one of these tiaras or is perhaps gifted with something new, we can be sure that she will be sparkling perfection as she walks down the aisle.
