The Queen’s Jewellery: Brazilian aquamarine brooch

This stunner of a brooch consists of a large rectangular aquamarine in a simple diamond setting.

As the name suggests, the piece came from Brazil. In 1953, The President and Brazilian people gave Her Majesty a gift for her coronation, in the form of an aquamarine and diamond necklace with matching earrings. The blue stones were perfectly matched and took a whole year to find.

Leslie Fields explains that The Queen had a tiara made in 1957 to go with the necklace and earrings, and received a bracelet and brooch, made to match the first Brazilian gift, in 1958.

It is rather large piece, so Her Majesty does not wear it too often – her tastes are known to be simple and not showy, but occasionally we get a glimpse of this sparkler on blue or white outfits.
