Prince Charles’ Gloucestershire home, Highgrove, had a new gardener recently – in the form of grandson Prince George.
Prince George helped his granddad plant two saplings last month, one of which takes pride of place next to Highgrove House’s front door. The sapling is a Winter Orange lime tree, and the other, which lies out in the estate’s gardens, was a balsam poplar.
The Prince of Wales is a keen gardener, so it seems he may be encouraging George to be green-fingered from a young age.
The sapling is regularly pointed out to visitors by the tour guides, and one guest said that Charles ‘is obviously very proud of Prince George.’
George, who turns 2 next month, features in the welcome video message that The Prince of Wales recorded for visitors: a photo of grandfather and grandson sits in the background.
Highgrove House is an 18th century property in Tetbury, and the gardens receive more than 30,000 visitors per year – perhaps more now that Prince George has been gardening! Highgrove products, including vegetables, preserves and wines, are available to purchase from Highgrove Farm Shop, as well as other locations.
In 2003, Charles, William and Harry had a photo taken in front of Highgrove’s treehouse. Maybe Prince George and sister Princess Charlotte will be able to play in it in future?
