Diana’s favourite tiara for Kate at Diplomatic Corps reception

We saw The Duchess of Cambridge in another tiara this evening, as she attended the Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace.

In a move that surprised many Royal watchers, Catherine dazzled wearing the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, featuring 19 pearl drops; it was a favourite of Diana, Princess of Wales and was loaned to her long-term by The Queen, in 1981 as a wedding gift. It was regularly seen on Her Majesty prior to gifting it, and The Duchess of Cornwall has also worn it a number of times.

The Diplomatic Corps reception honours diplomats who work in the UK, and is an annual feature in the Royal calendar. The Royals make a point of speaking with every diplomat at the white-tie event.

WILLIAM & KATE ATTEND FIRST STATE BANQUET DURING CHINESE VISIT

Over 1000 guests attend, with the event taking place in numerous state rooms, including the Ball Room, where State Banquets are held. This year, however, the State Dining Room was closed due to a collapsed ceiling.

Kate, 33, also reused the ice blue Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the first corps reception she attended in 2013. Though we do not have any pictures of the gown in its entirety, it features short ruched sleeves, a boat neckline and a delicate lace panel to the front.

Made by Garrard for Queen Mary in 1913 or 1914, the tiara was modelled on that of Mary’s grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse, Duchess of Cambridge, hence the tiara’s name.

The Duke of Cambridge accompanied his wife, and Prince Charles also attended the event, held at Buckingham Palace.
