It has been confirmed that former ‘Doctor Who’ actor Matt Smith will play a young Duke of Edinburgh in a new drama ‘The Crown’.
The original series has been created by the online subscription service Netflix, which has over 50 million subscribers across the world.
‘The Crown’ portrays the ‘gripping decades spanning inside story of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Prime Ministers who shaped Britain’s post-war destiny,’ and so we can expect to see historic moments played out on the small screen, including other members of the Royal Family.
Claire Foy has been cast as The Queen, alongside Smith’s Prince Philip, and John Lithgow will play PM Winston Churchill.
The series will consist of 10 episodes due to be released in 2016, written by Peter Morgan, writer of ‘The Queen’ and ‘The Audience’ both starring Helen Mirren as The Queen.
It has been reported that ‘The Crown’ is the ‘largest television undertaking in the history of broadcasting’.
