The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall stepped out in London on Thursday, to hear how the Coronavirus pandemic has affected city nightlife industries, including theatres and clubs.
Prince Charles and Camilla visited the Soho Theatre to show their support for the arts industry. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, London’s Night Czar and the Deputy Major for Culture joined them for the visit.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall saw Natasha Marshall perform her play ‘Half Breed’. The comedy play focuses on finding your own voice.

Speaking of the performance, Prince Charles commented “That’s marvellous, such dedication. I really enjoyed the performance and I am praying all of you can open soon. I wish you every success.”

Soho Theatre has become the setting for a range of new comedy specials on Amazon Prime. The theatre is creating more digital content after seeing an increase in the demand, and now reaches a larger audience. Soho Theatre is beginning to commence a small-scale pilot performance with live performances in March 2021.

The royal pair visited The 100 Club, one of London’s most famous music venues, where bands such as first started performing to show their support for the vibrant nightlife.

The Prince and Duchess heard how the pandemic has affected professionals in the music industry. They were shown around the venue by manager Jeff Horton and co-manager Ruby Horton. Marker pens in hand, the Royals and added their names to a graffiti wall in the Green Room, joining a range of performers from throughout decades.

Prince Charles and Camilla spoke to Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London to discuss the Culture at Risk Emergency Fund. This is set to provide £2.3 million to vulnerable small businesses, which are vital to the diverse nightlife in the capital. These small businesses were forced to close during the first lockdown putting venues and jobs at risk of permanent closure.

Earlier this year, The Prince of Wales presented awards to individuals across the music industry. This is the first joint engagement since the royal couple visited the Bank of England in October.
