The Cambridges are to make London their base once more, after Prince William leaves his role as an air ambulance pilot in the summer, Kensington Palace has announced.
In a statement released on Twitter, William and Catherine are to make Apartment 1A their main home from the autumn, after spending two years mostly at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. The Royals commuted to London for any Royal duties there.
“I have loved being part of a team of professional, talented people that save lives every day,” the Duke’s statement reads, describing it as a ‘huge privilege’. He also thanked the locals for allowing him to carry out his role unhindered.
Basing their family in Norfolk afforded the Duke the chance to continue serving the public before taking on full-time Royal duties, and allowed the Cambridge family privacy as their children grew.
In line with William leaving his job – for which he donates his entire £40,000 salary to charity – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be increasing their Royal workload to assist the ageing Queen. William’s contract as a pilot ends in the summer.
WHY PRINCE CHARLES MUST BE OUR NEXT KING
The Duke said his experiences with East Anglian Air Ambulance “will add a valuable perspective” to his role as future King.
Prince George is attending nursery in Norfolk currently, but will be schooled in London from September. Rumours are rife that the 3-year-old will be donning the Wetherby Prep school uniform, the same that William and Harry attended as children. The announcement says that Princess Charlotte will attend nursery and school in the capital, too.
