At approximately 9pm, the couple arrived into Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport for their two-day visit to the British Overseas Territory. Anne and Tim were met at the doors of the British Airways flight by Governor John Rankin and Captain Paolo Odoli, the Aide-de-Camp to the Governor before driving off in a motorcade to the Governor’s palatial residence at Government House; here, they planted a number of trees in the grounds.

This morning (25th June), the Princess and her husband couple attended morning service at Christ Church, a Scottish Presbyterian church in the town of Warwick.

The Queen and the Royal Family belong to both the Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland; in fact, Princess Anne and Sir Tim married at the Scottish Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral, in 1992. Christ Church is a unique island church, complete with a towering white castle turret-like spire.

The Royals then met competitors and volunteers at the 2017 America’s Cup at Great Sound, a competition that reportedly dates back to 1851. The competing teams are: Oracle Team USA, Artemis Racing of Sweden, Emirates Team New Zealand, Land Rover BAR of Britain, Groupama Team France, and SoftBank Team Japan.

Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie is captaining the British team, which The Duchess of Cambridge has had involvement, in her support of the 1851 Trust.

Before returning to the UK in time to chair the International Olympic Committee Members Election Commission dinner at Buckingham Palace tomorrow, Princess Anne and Sir Tim visited the National Museum of Bermuda and its accompanying Commissioner’s House. The house was once home to the British commissioner responsible for the governance and taxation of Bermuda, and is a grand Georgian villa dating back to 1820, when the frame which was built in England was shipped over to the island.

In 1862, the Commissioner’s House was transferred to the Royal Marines to become one of their barracks, and during the Second World War it was home to the North Atlantic submarine radio interception base.

The Princess Royal last visited Bermuda in 2011 on her way to the Caribbean-Canada Emerging Leaders’ Dialogue meeting.
