Few events can rival the intensity, drama and spectacle on offer at the world’s greatest airshow. The Royal International Air Tattoo, one of the UK’s premier outdoor events, is perfect for entertaining the family – and it seems the Cambridges were no different, with William and Kate taking two-year-old George to his first event today.
Today Prince George carried out his first official engagement in the UK, when he accompanied his parents to the Air Tattoo and got to check out planes and helicopters for himself.
The Air Tattoo is staged in support of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, a charity set up in 2005 to support the wider RAF family. As well as seeking to develop a spirit of air-mindedness in youngsters, it also aims to promote excellence with the Royal Air Force.
During the thrilling 7.5 hour flying display visitors saw fast jets, giant transporters, historic aircraft, met the crews of these machines.
With a little help from his dad and a few friendly pilots, George even found himself at the controls of Red Arrow Hawk. Prince William worked in the RAF as a search and rescue pilot in Anglesey for five years, before taking to air ambulance piloting in East Anglia earlier this year.
It was no doubt a great day out for the entire family, and a fun first official engagement for Prince George, future King, who we have long known enjoys anything that flies – he was seen fascinated at Trooping the Colour last month. We may well see George at this event many times in the years to come.
