Prince William and Catherine play virtual bingo with care home residents

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined residents of the Shire Hall Care Home, in Cardiff, in a video call to play bingo!

Prince William and Kate used a bingo spinner in their Norfolk home to play, with both Royals calling out numbers and showing their knowledge of the lingo.

Joining residents Margaret Stocks, Margaret Jones, Ray Donoghue and Joan Drew-Smith, William said: “Catherine is going to pick out the first ball,” as Kate announced: “So, the first number is five and eight, 58.”

More giggles came as the Duke called his number: “One little duck, number two.”

The Duchess took the next two balls: “Eight and seven, 87… Six and two, tickety-boo!”

“George would like this one, five and five, snakes alive!” Kate called number 55.

Hearing Joan Drew-Smith call out “I won”, Catherine congratulated the winner with: “Well done!”

Asked how they were, Prince William responded ‘very well’ and asked Joan: “How did we do at bingo, was it ok?”

“Very good, it wasn’t as good as it should have been,” came the reply to roars of laughter.

Speaking to staff, the Duke asked how their mental health was holding up: “Obviously, you’re doing a lot more hours, you’re a lot more involved, and there a lot more.”

“The morale is lovely. There’s a positive daily life at Shire Hall,” one member of staff said.

“I’ve never known Welsh people not know how to have fun…” William said cheekily.

Shire Hall is part of the Hallmark Care Homes group, a family-run business which provides residential, nursing and dementia care to more than 1,000 residents across locations in England and South Wales. It is currently home to 87 residents aged from 58 to 99.
