BREAKING: The Queen has died

Buckingham Palace have announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

After 70 years on the throne, The Queen passed away aged 96 at Balmoral.

Buckingham Palace released the following statement:

‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon’.

‘The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow’.

On September 8th, Buckingham Palace said ‘The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.’ They added ‘The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral’.

A day after meeting with the new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, The Queen accepted doctors’ advice to rest. It meant the virtual Privy Council meeting that was due to take place was cancelled.

The Queen had scaled back her public appearances after experiencing ‘ongoing mobility issues’ that was first reported in 2021.

Earlier this year, celebrations for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee took place, where The Queen attended several events such as the balcony appearance for Trooping the Colour. In a message marking the end of the celebrations, The Queen said she was ‘humbled and deeply touched’ by everyone who celebrated. She was ‘inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship’.
