Princess Alexandra has had to cancel all of her upcoming engagements after fall, breaking her wrist.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Unfortunately, Princess Alexandra has been forced to cancel some engagements due to a broken wrist.”
The 80-year-old Princess is a cousin of The Queen and was due to open a new road in Lancashire today. However, in light of recent events, she has been advised to stay at home and rest.
The Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, will instead take over for Alexandra, to officially open the Bay Gateway Heysham to M6 link road.
This is likely to affect a few weeks’ worth of engagements as the Princess recovers.
She undertook 82 official engagements in support of the Queen in 2016, and is patron of over 100 organisations. The Queen showed her thanks to her cousin late last year with a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate her work.
