Yesterday, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, attended a performance of Othello at The Ambassador’s Theatre. He also lunched at The Club at The Ivy member’s club.
Edward is the patron of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, a charity committed to developing the acting potential of young people through creative arts. The upper age limit of the NYT is 25, and The Earl of Wessex has committed to supporting the work of the theatre, including attending many of the plays showcased by its amateur actors.
Directed by Simon Pittman, NYT’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ takes a 21st century twist on this tried-and-tested play. It brings together jealousy, a serious side, and humour.
Prince Edward is thought to have enjoyed viewing the play during his time at The Ambassador’s Theatre.
Later in the day, the Earl attended a lunch at The Club at The Ivy, a private member’s club located over three floors in Covent Garden. The invitation-only club serves a menu with dishes including French, Italian, British and Spanish classics and modern reinterpretations.
The lunch was in aid of his NYT patronage.
There sadly haven’t been any images of his visit released.
