New photo marks Platinum Jubilee – Queen is ‘inspired by goodwill’ of her people

A new photo has been released this evening to mark the Platinum Jubilee, ahead of celebrations tomorrow.

With it, The Queen has released a statement of thanks to the people for their support and best wishes.

The image shows the Monarch, 96, sitting in a window seat at Windsor, with the silhouette of the Round Tower in the background.

It was taken by Ranald Mackechnie in her private apartments last week.

“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth,” her message says.

“I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions.

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.”

This is the UK’s first Platinum Jubilee, beginning with Trooping the Colour tomorrow.
