The Duke of Sussex sings on stage as he enjoys night at the theatre with Meghan

On Wednesday evening, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended Victoria Palace Theatre in London to watch the hit musical Hamilton. The production was performed for a charity gala night for the Duke’s charity Sentebale.

The Duke and Duchess were joined by representatives from the charity to enjoy the performance, which has been a Broadway success in both the US and the UK. Hamilton details the story of the founding fathers of America and has been praised for its use of non-white actors; the production has won prestigious Tony and Grammy awards.

Harry and Meghan were greeted upon their arrival to the theatre by the musical’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda and his wife, Vanessa Nadal.

The Duke of Sussex thanked Lin-Manuel before the show began, he said: “Guys, congratulations in bringing it over here…Thank you for doing this for Sentebale. It means so much to us and it’s going to be a fun night!”  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were sat in the theatre’s Royal Circle for the performance.

After meeting the Duke and Duchess, Lin-Manuel told reporters, “They [Harry and Meghan] said they were huge fans of the show. It’s a huge honour for me.”

At the end of the night, Harry got on stage along with Lin-Minuel to thank the performers and audience for helping raise money for Sentebale. The Duke attempted to sing a line from the musical, much to the enjoyment of the cast and audience.

Harry thanked the audience, the production staff, the show’s creators, the cast and the crew for their contributions to Sentebale. He said, “You have together raised a huge amount of money to help thousands of children to stop the generational hand-down of stigma around HIV. Thank you so much for being here this evening.”

He then praised the cast for performing the show every single night and exclaimed how much he had enjoyed the performance.

The gala night has been put on to raise awareness and funds for Sentebale, a charity The Duke of Sussex created in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support children and young people affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s engagement tonight marks the end of their summer break and return to regular engagements for the autumn.
