A second Royal tweet: Queen thanks public for birthday wishes

The Queen has sent her second ever tweet this afternoon, thanking the public for their birthday wishes in her 90th year.

The tweet, sent on the Palace’s official Twitter account @RoyalFamily, reads:

“I am most grateful for the many digital messages of goodwill I have received and would like to thank you all for your kindness. Elizabeth R.”

It was then mentioned that Her Majesty had sent the message personally, and a photo of the Monarch sending the tweet was posted.

She sits at a desk in front of an iPad, wearing a vibrant pink and orange dress.

Thousands of people have liked and retweeted these posts.

This is just the second time Her Majesty has personally used social media, the first being at the Science Museum in 2014.

“It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R,” the tweet read.

Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice of York have their own twitter accounts, from which some personal messages are sent. Beatrice posted a picture of her dog’s puppies last Christmas.

The Duke of York’s account is run by his office, and personal tweets are signed ‘AY’, for ‘Andrew York’.
