With The Queen officially marking her Platinum Jubilee this year, Buckingham Palace have released new pictures of Her Majesty viewing a collection of memorabilia from her numerous jubilees.
The Monarch viewed the memorabilia in the Oak Room in Windsor Castle. The viewing took place last month, before she headed to Sandringham, where she is set to spend the anniversary of Accession Day and the anniversary of her father’s death.
The range of items were stored in the royal archives at Windsor Castle, and were shown to The Queen by Dr Stella Panayotova, librarian and assistant keeper.
Among the items on show were handmade cards and a fan given to Queen Victoria to mark her Golden Jubilee in 1887 by the then-Prince and Princess of Wales, later Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The fan was signed by her family, including all of her surviving children, and friends including her Prime Minister, the Marquess of Salisbury and Joseph Chamberlain.
Speaking about the fan, The Queen said: “It’s very well preserved, isn’t it. How extraordinary. And it still shuts!”
Also on show was a recipe for a perfect Queen, which included qualities such as loyalty, hard work, courage and good smile. All qualities The Queen most definitely has!
There was also a card from nursery school children for the Golden Jubilee made from fingerprints. There was one card that caught The Queen’s attention straight away – it consisted of eight bottle tops and featured the words ‘Ma’am You’re The Tops’.
Much to her delight The Queen remarked how it was ‘good, simple but ingenious’.

During the viewing, The Queen was joined by her dog Candy, which slowly walked into the room unexpectedly but much to the delight of The Queen. Speaking the dog, she said: “nd where did you come from?” before she bent down to stroke it and continued, “I know what you want”.
Cards to mark the Platinum Jubilee were also on display as well as recipes for the Platinum Pudding competition, which was announced earlier this year. A royal aide told The Queen: “We’ve had a number of Platinum Pudding competition entries that have been coming in in recent weeks. People have been very creative.”
During the viewing, The Queen paid tribute to her late father by wearing her aquamarine and diamond clip brooches. The brooches were an 18th birthday present from her beloved ‘Papa’. The special pieces were made by Boucheron from baguette, oval and round diamonds and aquamarines.
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said the Royal Household receives more than 100,000 pieces of correspondence in a Jubilee year, including tens of thousands of which are messages of congratulations and letters of support for The Queen. 2022 will be a year full of celebrations to mark The Queen’s 70 years on the throne, with a four-day Bank Holiday weekend in June. These are comprised of Trooping the Colour, the lighting of jubilee beacons, a Service of Thanksgiving, the Platinum Pageant and a concert.
A special logo has been chosen for the occasion, designed by a budding graphic design student, and can be seen on official information about the jubilee, now that 2022 has begun.
A number of royal residences, including Sandringham, are also set to mark the historic occasion.
