Princess Sofia has left Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm with her newborn son after his birth yesterday. The Swedish Royal court has released a photo of Carl Philip, his wife and son.
A short statement was released with the above photo as the family leave the hospital, saying the trio were heading back to Drottingholm Palace, and that they were ‘all feeling good and looking forward to time together’.
Sofia, 31, gave birth at 6.25pm yesterday, with the newborn weighing just shy of 8lb.
It is the fifth grandchild for King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia; they are already grandparents to Princess Estelle, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicholas and Prince Oscar, born just last month.
The baby’s name will be announced tomorrow when The King meets with the Cabinet. The Prince will be fifth in line to the Swedish throne after his father.
Members of both Carl Philip’s and Sofia’s families have sent greetings to the couple:
King and Queen of Sweden: “We are extremely happy for Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and are delighted to have become grandparents again. We hope the new parents enjoy a time of peace and quiet together with their son.”
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel: “We hope Carl Philip and Sofia enjoy these wonderful first few days with their new-born son, and we share the new parents’ joy.”
Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill: “We are delighted to welcome a new member of the family, and we congratulate Carl Philip and Sofia on becoming parents.”
Marie and Erik Hellqvist, Sofia’s parents: “We are so pleased that Prince Carl Philip and our daughter Sofia have had their first child. We have longed for a grandchild for a long time, and we are both extremely proud and happy. We wish them great happiness together with the new member of the family, and we will provide help and support as grandparents.”
Lina Hellqvist and Sara Hellqvist, Sofia’s sisters: “We welcome this tiny new member of the family with great joy and love. We have been looking forward to becoming aunts, and we will enjoy getting to know our nephew. We wish the new family the very best of luck!”
