Countess of Wessex submits her own photo from volunteering for Kate’s ‘Hold Still’ project

As part of the National Portrait Gallery’s ‘Hold Still’ project, to document life during lockdown, The Countess of Wessex has submitted her own image.

Sophie, who has been volunteering her time to help put together food parcels and support front line workers snapped a fellow volunteer at the Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking.

The image was submitted to the ‘Hold Still’ project, launched by The Duchess of Cambridge a few weeks ago. The campaign wants to show British life during the pandemic lockdown, and has asked for members of the public to share their images that fit into three categories: Helpers and Heroes, Your New Normal and Acts of Kindness.

She wrote: “Ali helped to establish the mosque’s food parcel delivery service for NHS workers, people self-isolating and other families in need, which has so far helped 400 households.

“Ali volunteers at the mosque every day from 7am – 5pm, keeping up with his day job from home in the evenings. Ali’s smile captures the enthusiasm for helping others that is so evident amongst the volunteers at the mosque.”

As well as volunteering at the mosque, the Countess has been helping once a week with Mealforce and Helpforce, a charity providing daily meals for NHS workers, supporting hospitals across London. The Wessex family lives a few miles from Windsor, at Bagshot Park.
