Consort to Carl XVI Gustaf, Silvia was treated ‘after feeling dizzy’, the statement said. It added that The Queen had been struggling with a cold ‘for some time’.

She was kept overnight for observation by doctors.

Elizabeth II and Prince Philip delayed their journey to Sandringham on Wednesday after also having ‘heavy colds’; they took the Royal helicopter to Norfolk on Thursday instead.

Silvia is said to be doing well, and that Princess Madeleine, her youngest child, spent the night at the hospital.

The Queen is not thought to be suffering from any health conditions. Updates as we get them.
